Darkness Clashes is now available!

Darkness Clashes coverThanks to everyone for their patience.  I’m happy to let you all know Darkness Clashes is now available on all retailer sites (Amazon/B&N/iTunes/Kobo).  You can find links to them at the bottom of this post.  My apologies to everyone who has been waiting and thanks for all the lovely emails.  I’ll be responding to them today.

I’ve also chosen four random winners from those who participated in the giveaway (see this post).  They can expect an email from me letting them know they’ve won.  Everyone else who participated will be receiving bookmarks soon if they’ve provided me with a mailing address.

What to expect:

Though this isn’t my longest book, it does have some complicated plot threads that required a greater balancing act than previous novels to make them as seamless as possible.  Character motivations are much more murky with no easy sides to take.  Melena will have a lot of tough choices.  It is also set at a faster pace and over a shorter period than what I usually do for my books.  I hope you enjoy the ride!

Back from NOLA and other updates

I just got back last night from a trip to New Orleans.  This was primarily a research trip, but my husband and I had a good time while there.  I would have preferred going sooner than this since some parts of Darkness Clashes do take place there (no spoilers, not to worry), but that was the soonest my husband could take off work.  He didn’t want to miss it since he’d never been to Louisiana.  This meant sketching out those scenes and/or writing a tentative draft of them ahead of time due to the tight schedule, but now I’ve got everything I need to fill them in.

Facebook fans have seen a few of the trip pics I’ve posted, but I’ll post a couple here as well (see below).

I stayed at The Olivier House and loved it.  Our room had older style furnishings, which is what I wanted, but it also had modern amenities like a television and cable.  With the final World Cup games taking place while there, this was particularly important to the husband.  I’ll confess to not watching, but I do want to congratulate Germany for their win!

I’m also excited to let you all know my cover artist and typographer finished the cover for Darkness Clashes during the trip.  It looks amazing!  I’ll be revealing it exclusively with Bitten by Books on July 25th, but will post a link here as a reminder on that day so you can check it out as well as the official blurb.  For now you all will have to satisfy yourselves with the new website header (top of this page) that has a never-seen-before pose of Lucas and Melena.  No, it is not the one on the cover.  This shot was taken for promo purposes only.

That’s it for now on updates.  It’s back to the grindstone for me so I can have this book ready by the end of next month.  Hope all of you are having a great summer 🙂

Playing with Darkness is now available!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I’m happy to let you all know that Playing with Darkness, book 3.5 of the Sensor Series,  has now been uploaded to all the retailers.  As of now Amazon and Barnes & Noble customers can grab their copies.  Hopefully Kobo and iTunes will follow soon.  For those of you who requested the novella ahead of time, I have sent out PDF copies to your emails.  If you haven’t heard from me and you were supposed to, please do let me know.

This story came to just over 16k words.  Much shorter than my other books, but I hope it helps tide you all over until Darkness Clashes releases.  There is some fun with Kerbasi and for those who need a bit of Lucas and Melena time, there’s some of that in there, too.  Hope you all enjoy it!

Playing with DarknessSUMMARY:

There’s no avoiding it. Melena must keep her promise to return the fae device that opens the portal to Purgatory. Except there’s one problem—Kerbasi. How can she go when she has one of heaven’s minions practically attached to her hip? One who will strike fear in the hearts of the fae the moment they realize who he is.

When her shape-shifter cat suddenly gets sick, she can’t delay the trip any longer. Only the fae can help get Sable healthy again. And if Kerbasi tries to cause any trouble while they are there, she’ll just have to find creative ways to keep him in line.

Cover reveal for “Playing with Darkness” book 3.5 of the Sensor Series

As I’d mentioned in a previous post, if the spin-off story for Melena returning the fae device to Feidlimid grew too long I would be publishing it with the retailers.  That did happen!  I hope no one minds.  At the end of the post you can see the cover and official summary for the novella.

Anyone who has contacted me already or who does so in the future will still be getting it free via email when it’s ready.  Those who have not specified their ereader type will be getting the PDF version unless they tell me something different before then.  Otherwise it will just cost 99 cents to purchase on Amazon, B&N, Kobo, and iTunes.

It will be available on May 31st and I will post links here and on Facebook as they become available.

When it was just going to be a short story I hadn’t needed a cover, but once I realized how long it was becoming I had to have one designed.  Sable has a key part in the novella so I thought it might be nice to include her this time on the cover.  Hope you all like it!

Darkness Divides playlist and other news

First off, those of you who were with me on Facebook last night know that I picked a title for the novella I’m releasing at the end of this month (May).  After much debate and help with readers we decided on “Playing with Darkness”.  I’ve already got the cover art done and will reveal it as soon as the typography is on there.  It’s really looking amazing, especially with Sable joining Melena for this one.

I also want to thank all the fans for their support.  In the first thirty days since Darkness Divides has released it has sold over 3600 copies between all retailers and is still going strong.  This was much more than I expected for this early on!  It’s also reached as high as #3 on the New Release Best Seller list for Dark Fantasy and #6 on the regular list.  With authors like Charlaine Harris topping it, I’m happy to get that far.  I couldn’t have done it without readers like you all spreading the word about the series 🙂

Now, we’ll get on with the playlist that inspired my writing Darkness Divides and what I’m also using for the follow-up novella.  If you’ve got some suggestions for me to use with Darkness Clashes feel free to let me know in the comments.  All songs below are linked to their albums on iTunes in case you’d like to check them out further.

1) “Roar” by Katy Perry

2) “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

*Thanks to the Microsoft tablet commercials for getting this one stuck in my head (my husband likes to play the television in deafening volumes from the other room while I’m writing in what I suspect is an attempt to drive me crazy).  The lyrics to this song are rather inspiring, though.

3) “Bent” by Matchbox Twenty

*Especially influenced the first few chapters of the novel.

4) “Disease” by Matchbox Twenty

5) “Unwell” by Matchbox Twenty

6) “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry

*Especially influenced the fae city portion of the novel.

7) “This Is My Now” by Jordin Sparks

8) “Human” by Christina Perri

*Especially influenced the early part of the novel.

9) “Don’t Cry” by Guns N’ Roses

10) “Intuition” by Jewel

*This song just helped get me in a good mood to write 🙂

11) “You Were Meant For Me” by Jewel

12) “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC

*Influenced the last half of the book

13) “Hells Bells” by AC/DC

*Influenced the last half of the book

13) “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC

*Influenced the last half of the book and always makes me think of Lucas and Mel together

14) “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC

*Influenced the last half of the book

15) “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas

*Influenced the last half of the book
