Audiobook release and paperbacks

For those of you who have been waiting for Darkness Divides and Darkness Clashes to be out in paperback, they are both available now.  Amazon gave me the kick in the pants I needed to get it done by offering to help out.  I think they got tired of waiting for me to do it myself (in my defense, I’ve been busy).  Big thanks to the Createspace team for their design work.  Here’s the links for those who’d like to pick them up:

Darkness Divideshttp://www.amazon.com/Darkness-Divides-Sensor-Volume-3/dp/1502932008/

Darkness Clasheshttp://www.amazon.com/Darkness-Clashes-Sensor-Volume-4/dp/1502932180/

You can also find them on Barnes & Noble as well as some other online retailers.

The big release day for the Darkness Haunts audiobook is this Tuesday (Nov 25th).  Pre-order for the digital download is now available, but if you’d like to hear a sample of it first click here.   Prices for it vary according to how you purchase so for your convenience I’m going to tell you the cheapest ways to get it as of right now.  Keep in mind the cost could go up or down at the retailer’s discretion.

1) For those who shop at Amazon and already own the kindle version of Darkness Haunts, you can get the audio version on Amazon here for $3.49.  I’m not sure of the price outside the U.S. but feel free to comment and let me know what you’re seeing if you’re in the UK, Germany, Australia, etc and own the Kindle version.

2) If you’re a member of Audible and have downloads left you could get it for free or if you’re new to the site you could sign up for trial membership and get it for free.  Here’s the link- http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Darkness-Haunts-Audiobook/B00PKJ2MJ8/

3) For those who do not have Audible membership (or can’t/won’t get it), and also do not own the Kindle version of Darkness Haunts you have a few options.  Buy at full price from Amazon or Audible for $27.99, buy it on iTunes for $23.95, or you can buy it on my publisher website (Tantor) for $14.39 at this link- https://tantor.com/darkness-haunts-susan-illene.html

As I mentioned in a previous post, you can also order the CD versions of the audio book.  Here’s the links to those:

Amazon

Barnes & Noble

Tantor*

Books-A-Million

Waterstones (for the UK folks)

*Currently, Tantor offers CDs at the lowest cost.  You can get the regular audio CD that works in all CD players/computers for $14.99 or you can get the MP3 CD for $9.99 that works in computers and some CD players.

I hope those of you who pick it up enjoy the audio version of Darkness Haunts.  You can expect Darkness Taunts to be out on December 16th.  The CD version for it and the other books in the series are already up for pre-order, but the digital download versions don’t become available until closer to their release dates.  Feel free to ask any questions if you have any!

Giveaway for jewelry worn by the model on the Darkness Clashes cover

This Sunday (September 21st) I will be doing a giveaway for the necklace and bracelet worn by the female model on Darkness Clashes.  The winner will also receive one promo item of their choice (tote bag, series notebook, signed paperback, coffee mug, etc).  The contest will be on Facebook only.  I apologize to those who don’t have an account, but there will be other giveaways coming up soon that don’t require you to have one.  Such as a Q&A event I’m planning.

For those who are able to participate this Sunday (Monday in Australia), expect that I will be asking a random question from Darkness Clashes.  The first person to answer will win the prizes.  The question will come from the first half of the book so if you haven’t finished the novel yet you’ll be okay as long as you’ve hit close to the fifty percent mark.  I also understand time is precious and you can’t hover on Facebook all day/night.  You can expect the question to come during the following one-hour period (adjusted for time zones):

US Time

4pm-5pm (EDT)

3pm-4pm (CDT)

2pm-3pm (MDT)

1pm-2pm (PDT)

Europe

UK: 9pm-10pm

Germany/France: 10pm-11pm

Australia

Melbourne/Sydney: 6am-7am

Perth:  4am-6am

The vast majority of my readers come from the above areas.  I have worked the times out the best I can so that none of them are in the middle of the night, though the Aussies will have to be up rather early (sorry!).  These were calculated today based on current time differences.  If your area will be adjusting the clock over the weekend because of daylight savings ending please keep that in mind.  US times are the basis.  For those who live in another country I would recommend converting them yourself just to be safe.

For a close-up of the necklace and bracelet, here you go:

Darkness Clashes is now available!

Darkness Clashes coverThanks to everyone for their patience.  I’m happy to let you all know Darkness Clashes is now available on all retailer sites (Amazon/B&N/iTunes/Kobo).  You can find links to them at the bottom of this post.  My apologies to everyone who has been waiting and thanks for all the lovely emails.  I’ll be responding to them today.

I’ve also chosen four random winners from those who participated in the giveaway (see this post).  They can expect an email from me letting them know they’ve won.  Everyone else who participated will be receiving bookmarks soon if they’ve provided me with a mailing address.

What to expect:

Though this isn’t my longest book, it does have some complicated plot threads that required a greater balancing act than previous novels to make them as seamless as possible.  Character motivations are much more murky with no easy sides to take.  Melena will have a lot of tough choices.  It is also set at a faster pace and over a shorter period than what I usually do for my books.  I hope you enjoy the ride!

 Chapter One

The werewolf had been staring at me for the last twenty minutes.  His relentless gaze sent chills along my spine and made it hard for me not to turn and face him.  Even from twenty feet away I could sense his growing desire.  What was he waiting for?  The right moment to pounce?

The dozens of humans surrounding us might have had something to do with it.  This was Spokane, Washington.  Not a lot of vampires around to compel the mortals into forgetting if the werewolf made a big scene.  With the full moon just passed, he’d still be on edge and have to watch himself.

People from one end of the rectangular bar to the other drank, danced, and played pool games as they enjoyed their Saturday night.  Music blared from the nearby speakers and it didn’t take a sensitive nose to catch the conflicting scents of sweat, stale beer, and cheap perfume.  It was the picture of normalcy and proved how utterly oblivious these people were to the dark underbelly of the supernatural world rubbing shoulders with them.

A world I’d once avoided and pretended not to see.

The werewolf couldn’t know I wasn’t human—at least not anymore—but some sixth sense must have registered that I wasn’t easy prey.  Not even close.  I was more like a spider weaving an alluring web and waiting for him to step into it.  The one enigmatic smile I’d given him when I arrived started the game.  My loose auburn hair and blue halter dress with its short skirt kept it going.

Playing the role of a shy and vulnerable woman wore on me, but I wanted him to make the first move.  For him to think he was in control—until he wasn’t.  I didn’t get away from Fairbanks, Alaska that often.  I had to get my kicks when I could.

I took a sip of my fruity drink.  A husband and wife sat on the left side of me, drinking beer and complaining about their kids.  I’d adopted a teenager myself and understood their difficulties.  The barstool on my right side was empty, but an older man with a long gray beard sat just beyond it.  He studied his beer bottle as if the answers to the universe might be revealed on the label.  I’d tried that once.  The words turn cryptic if you stare too long.

Toward the back of the place, a chair scraped against the tile floor.  The werewolf had finally decided to make his move.  My unique abilities as a sensor allowed me to track his movements without looking, but I also had the mirror behind the bar to help.  He had to weave around a handful of high tables filled with patrons before he could reach me.

My belly churned at the thought of him getting close, but I had to do this.  He was the first potential contact I’d found in Spokane and I only had one night to get what I needed.  Lucas wouldn’t care for my methods, but I was doing this for his brother—who’d been missing for four months.  We had to do whatever it took to find him.

The werewolf put a hand against the bar to my right, filling my peripheral vision.  His tanned arm was covered with curly dark hair.  My gaze trailed up to a bulging bicep and farther, to a thick chest covered loosely with a white t-shirt.  It had a Coors Light logo on it.

He leaned down until his face couldn’t have been more than a foot from mine.  His hair was shaved off, emphasizing a round head and full cheeks.  A day’s growth of beard dusted his chin and jaw.

“Hey, sweetheart.  What’s a pretty lady like you doin’ here all alone?” he asked, letting out a whiff of beer breath.

Take one for the team, Melena. You need this guy.

New release date for Darkness Clashes and sale for Darkness Haunts

I’ve been putting this off because I was hoping I wouldn’t have to let you all down, but revisions for Darkness Clashes are taking longer than expected.   It’s my hope to make this the best novel yet and that’s not something that can be rushed.  The new release date is September 14th (just under three weeks from now).  Please don’t shoot me…at least not if you want to get the book eventually!

To make it up to you all, I will be posting the first three chapters by the end of the week to tide you over.  There will also be a chance to get some cool promo items in that post.  Just make sure to check back so you can get the details (I promise it’s easy).

Also, I’ve reduced the price of the first novel in the series, Darkness Haunts, to 99 cents.  This sale only lasts until Friday, August 29th, before it goes back up to $3.99.  If you know anyone who might be interested in trying the book out this would be the time for them to grab a copy.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.  I promise the delay for Darkness Clashes will be worth it 🙂
