April update

First of all, thank you to everyone who has picked up a copy of Darkness Wanes.  I’ve appreciated all the wonderful feedback I’ve received via email and Facebook messages.  If you’d consider leaving a review on Amazon or whichever retailer you use, I’d greatly appreciate it.

The paperback should be out within two weeks for those interested.  I’m getting it formatted now.  Many people have asked about the audiobook and my publisher has set it to release on June 21st.  Sorry it can’t be sooner, but hopefully the time will pass quickly!

As for Dancing with Flames (book 2 of the Dragon’s Breath series), I have begun working hard on it.  I’d done some of the preliminary work last year after finishing the first novel, but now I’m getting deep into the writing.  One thing I’m enjoying is that with the apocalypse and basic world-building tasks are out of the way, I can focus more on the characters and plot threads with this installment.  There will be some recap of events from the first book, but mostly I’ll be pushing the story forward.

Yesterday, I spent some time on research I needed for the novel, going to visit a couple of sources for various information (don’t want to spoil anything).  It’s amazing how many people are patient with me when I ask crazy questions related to the series and that they’re willing to help.  I also walked through the location for one of the battle scenes and took a bunch of pictures I’ll refer to later.  There was a skateboard park nearby.  The guys there were giving me strange looks because I had to pass by them along my way while snapping photos (in another direction), but I ignored them.  Unfortunately, their colorful ramps couldn’t figure into my story due to their location.  This particular battle scene is already written, but my first drafts are bare bones with little description so I needed to get the proper lay of the land for when I do my revisions.

I know a lot of people want a hard date for when the novel will be out.  Believe me, I wish I could give it to you, but after all the delays with Darkness Wanes I’m a little nervous to do that just yet until I reach a certain point in the book.  Nothing bothers me more than letting you guys down when I miss a target date.  At the very least, we’re looking at two months from now.  That is doable, barring any unforeseen circumstances.  It’s spring, though, so keep your fingers crossed that Oklahoma doesn’t get another spat of tornadoes to distract me.  Speaking of which, there are storms forecast for the next couple of days so I should probably get off here and get some writing done while the weather is still calm.

Thanks again for all the support you’ve given me and for your patience.  I’ll post another update later in the month.

Book sale and other updates

As most of you are aware, I’ve been dealing with a lot of personal issues lately.  I can’t begin to thank everyone enough for the outpouring of support you’ve given me.  It has meant a lot.  Though I try to respond to emails, private messages, and comments as best I can, it has been a bit much to keep up with so please forgive me if I haven’t responded.  I am hoping to get caught up soon.

Speaking of which, I apparently missed an email from Amazon alerting me that they were going to run Stalked by Flames as a Kindle Daily Deal today (February 2nd).  They usually let authors know about two weeks in advance, but if you read my last post you’re aware I wasn’t in the best place around that time and must have missed their message.  It was a fluke I noticed the price change this morning.  Anyway, it’s currently $1.99 on Amazon U.S. (today only) for anyone who hasn’t picked up their ebook copy yet.  This is the link:    http://www.amazon.com/Stalked-Flames-Dragons-Breath-Series-ebook/dp/B012O4NCSQ/

Also, an author friend of mine, Debra Dunbar, recently released a novel in an all-new series titled Dead Rising.  If you’ve read her imp books, it doesn’t have the same level of quirky humor that one does.  This new series is closer to how I write.  Months ago I had the chance to beta read some of the early chapters and really enjoyed the story.  The heroine is from a long line of Templars, which is new and different from the usual urban fantasy fare. There isn’t much romance in the first novel, but a hint of it is there with the promise of more to come.

Debra also has the second novel in the series up for pre-order and will be releasing it in mid-March.  If you enjoy it, you won’t have to wait long for the next installment (unlike my books *cough*).  Oh, and Dead Rising is in Kindle Unlimited so you can borrow or purchase it, whichever is easiest for you.  Just click on the cover below and it will take you to the book’s Amazon page.

As for Darkness Wanes, I’m slowly getting back into working on it.  I hope to give you a positive update soon on where that is at.  Thanks so much for your patience everyone.

September publishing updates and a giveaway

First of all, thanks to everyone who has read/reviewed Stalked by Flames.  I’m pleased to announce it made it into the top 100 most read titles on Kindle Unlimited for the month of August with both Amazon U.S. and U.K.  It did far better than I imagined.  I must admit I was a little nervous about how people would react to me combining dragons, the modern world, and an apocalypse, but I absolutely felt the story in my head had to be written down.  The overwhelming positive response for the novel was amazing and very encouraging.  I’ll look forward to giving you more books in the series next year!

Truly, thanks to everyone who picked up a copy.  In appreciation of that I will be doing a few giveaways over the next couple of weeks with the first one starting today (see below for details).  I’ve also got several updates for you all including audio, paperbacks, official Darkness Wanes release date, and a giveaway.

STALKED BY FLAMES AUDIO

The audio version of Stalked by Flames just released last Thursday (September 24th).  As I mentioned on Facebook a while back, the Dragon’s Breath series is being narrated by Marguerite Gavin.  She has done a fantastic job with the first book and I love the voices she gave the characters.  If you enjoy audio at all you should check it out.  Here are some links for you:

DARKNESS WANES RELEASE DATE

The official release date for Darkness Wanes is November 18th.  I’d hoped to get it out by the end of October, but with the delay on Stalked by Flames and other personal issues there was no way I could get it finished and edited in less than three months.  I know there are some speedy authors out there, but for me I need a little more time to write full-length novels.  Every author has to work at their own speed.  Thanks for your patience.  I will be revealing the cover and summary around mid-October.  Be on the lookout for that.  I’ll also post the first couple of chapters by early November so you can get a sneak peek!

GIVEAWAY!!!

Three paperback copies of Stalked by Flames are up for grabs, along with bookmarks to go with them.  All you have to do is comment on this post no later than midnight (U.S. Pacific time) on November 2nd.  After that, I’ll randomly select three winners (who will get replies on this post if they won).  Be sure to put a valid email address in the appropriate field so that I can contact you for shipping details.  If you are reading this on Goodreads, please come to my website to comment.  This is open to international contestants.

The next big giveaway will be next week!  (Yes, if you enter this one you can still enter the others whether you win or not)

Stalked by Flames book trailer and behind the scenes pics

I’ve spent the last few days working on the book trailer for Stalked by Flames.  It took months of planning and coordination to put together since I had to get extra model shots done during the cover shoot (back in April) for it, along with finding the right music and clips to include in there.  You can check it out below.  Expect to see some footage similar to how things would appear in the book after Earth is attacked by dragons and a shot of a guy who looks close to how I see Aidan in my head (with some fire added around him, of course).  Thanks to Claudia McKinney at Phatpuppy Art) for doing the custom art for the still pics in the video!

Below are the behind-the-scenes pics from the cover/promo shoot my photographer (Teresa Yeh) was kind enough to send.  The model (Isabella Capri) who poses as Bailey had to get rather beaten up and bloody for one of the shots.  I was impressed with the amazing job she did pulling off the look and with the make-up artist (Nadya Rutman) for the realistic work she did getting the model ready (along with her assistant, Katy).  Isabella was kind enough to donate her own shorts and tank top for the shot since we didn’t want to mess up anything new.

Everything else the model is wearing I purchased through online retailers with the help of my cover design team (Sarah, Rachel, and Kristy) in choosing the right pieces.  One item was custom-made for the model.  The leg garter harness you see on the book cover and another shot in the video.  Thanks to Alison Esposito at Wild Wolf Leatherwork for putting the extra effort into crafting it just for this book series.  She did a great job!

Feel free to comment below.  For those who want them, I’m giving away Stalked by Flames bookmarks (U.S. and internationally).  Just be sure to mention you’re interested in getting one in your comment and include a valid email address in the appropriate field (not the comment section) so I can contact you for mailing information.  This offer stands until Saturday, August 8th.  There will be bigger giveaways coming up soon, so stay tuned to this blog for those as well!

Note- If you are a member of my cover design team or photography team (individuals mentioned in this post), you will be getting bookmarks soon.  The same goes for anyone who responded to my July newsletter.

Stalked by Flames is now available!

I’m pleased to announce Stalked by Flames is finally out.  This is the first book in my new Dragon’s Breath series and one I’ve really enjoyed writing.  It’s packed full of action from beginning to end, plus a little romance.  If you’re a fan of dragons and/or apocalyptic stories than you might want to check this one out.  A preview of the first three chapters is available here.

For those who are worried, this book does not end on any major cliffhangers the way Darkness Shatters did, but does have some open plot threads that will continue into the future novels.  My intent was to leave you satisfied at the end, yet happy to read more books in the series when they come out later.

You will find this novel is only available on Kindle for the next few months because it has been enrolled in KDP Select, which requires exclusivity to Amazon.  On a bright note, that means if you’re a Kindle Unlimited subscriber you can choose to borrow the ebook instead if you’d prefer.  I do hope to also make it widely available in paperback within the next few weeks.

Below you’ll find the details for Stalked by Flames, plus Amazon links.

Stalked by Flames cover (promo) SUMMARY:

Bailey Monzac has just graduated college and is heading to her parents’ ranch for the summer when dragons invade. Like something out of her worst nightmare, the fire-breathing beasts rain down chaos and devastation on unsuspecting human populations. One minute Bailey’s planning her future; the next she’s merely trying to survive.

But it isn’t long before she discovers she’s different from the people around her—the dragons’ destructive flames don’t affect her. That gives her an edge, but it also means she’ll become a target for powerful individuals seeking to use her to their advantage. Bailey will have to distinguish between allies and enemies quickly as she gets drawn into a war unlike anything the Earth has seen before.
